  Things to do

The world-famous Dunvegan Castle has been home to Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years and houses a fascinating collection of historic memorabilia. After a tour of the castle you can stroll round the beautiful gardens and perhaps take a boat trip to see Loch Dunvegan’s seal colony.

Other local attractions include Colbost Croft Museum, the Borreraig Park Piping Centre, Shilasdair spinning workshops/exhibitions, the Talisker Whisky Distillery and the Toy Museum at Glendale.

The whole area contains a number of interesting historical and natural sights and Dunvegan is the start of the Glendale Tourist Trail which leads to Neist Point lighthouse.  If you like the outdoors you can choose from a variety of interesting walks, ranging from a stroll to the Coral Beaches to a full day’s hike on the Duirinish coast.  We can advise on local walks – we’ve done most of them – and can arrange to drop you off and pick you up if necessary at the other end.

A visit to Skye provides the opportunity to see some of the UK’s most impressive birds, including both White Tailed and Golden Eagles. You may also hear, though you are unlikely to see, the elusive Corncrake, in one of its few remaining habitats. We are keen birdwatchers and we can provide up to date information on local sightings. If you want to check out the latest reports, log on to www.skye-birds.com

We can also help with freshwater and sea fishing. There is some excellent rock fishing around Loch Dunvegan, where you can catch wrasse, pollack and other species. In addition, trout fishing is available in a wide range of hill lochs. We can advise on permits, show you where to go and we have tackle for hire.
